  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold butter (or vegan butter)
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup milk (any type)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (or vegan butter, for icing)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup (for icing)
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, spices, salt, and granulated sugar.
  3. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles small peas.
  4. Stir in milk and molasses until just combined.
  5. Gently form the dough and flatten it to about 3/4" thick on a baking sheet.
  6. Brush the top with milk and sprinkle with granulated sugar.
  7. Cut into eight wedges and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. For optional icing, mix powdered sugar with melted butter, maple syrup, and vanilla until smooth; drizzle over cooled scones.
